What are some of the warning signs to look out for to identify a possible vision problem in children?
Kids with vision issues can exhibit a lot of different symptoms in school. The most common are headaches and eye strain. If a child doesn't see well, their eye muscles start working to bring material into focus. If kids are forced to use those muscles all day long to see, headaches can certainly result. Typically, if elementary school children are experiencing some form of headaches, it's a strong bet that their eyes are involved. Along with headaches, kids can get dizzy, nauseous and have balance issues when their eyes are working too hard. Some other common visual symptoms with children would be squinting, excessive eye rubbing or blinking and moving really close to objects to see them. Any and all of these factors would be a good reason to have a thorough eye examination.
